At the beginning of Math class the students will complete a Rocket Math activity. The 4th graders will be concentrating on knowing their subtraction facts and 5th grade will concentrate on multiplication and division skills. Rocket Math is a ten-minutes-a-day, paper and pencil, worksheet-based, supplemental, math facts practice curriculum. It is a uniquely structured curriculum for the sequential practice and mastery of math facts.Students learn 2 facts and their reverses on each worksheet in a carefully controlled sequence which enables mastery at an individualized pace.
Using the Saxton Math textbook students will do a daily warm-up activity using mental math. The new concept for the day will be introduced and time allotted for the class assignment. Any homework assigned not completed during class time or study hall will need to be taken home, completed and returned when due. If the student does not turn in the completed assignment when due they will use a "free pass".
Students have been given instructions on how to complete the daily homework sheets upon which they will do their assignments. They need to have several sheets available prior to class time so precious time is not lost preparing the homework assignment paper for that day's assignment. As always students need to come prepared with their textbook, paper and a sharpened pencil.
If a student does not understand a concept I will be available for assistance either during Math class or study hall.
