Career Cruising - EDPs

8th Grade Life Skills has finally ended and the end of the year is near! That means that high school is just a summer away for our 8th graders. Better get those EDPs finished! Educational...
Life Skills 7th & 8th grade special
This year we have started a new special class called "Life Skills". The aim of this class will be to deliver study skills, conflict resolution tools, career development and EDP creation time to our 7th and 8th graders.

The first section is 7th Grade and we are just finishing up the study skills component. I am proud of the students who were able to get up in front of the class and talk about thier own study preferences and what they need to do to get to where they want to be. Well done Ms.Finton's class!
Career Development
This year will be exciting. We are in the midst of planning a full-blown career fair with workers from all sorts of fields from your community. This event brought students from 5th - 8th grades face to face with working professionals. Students conducted interviews of lawyers, pilots, doctors, martial arts experts and others. It was a great success.

We will also continued to use Career cruising at the 7th and 8th grade levels, "Children's Dictionary of Occupations" cirriculum at the 3rd - 6th grade levels and our own Career exploration lessons at the K - 2nd grade levels.
Personal & Social Development
This year we will continue to provide counseling services for students who are going through difficult life situations and need a listening ear or some extra tools to be able to thrive in through those difficulties.

Groups and individual meetings are available. Parents, students and teachers may all feel free to contact me if you wish.

This year we will also use the Project Alert program, Too Good for Violence, anti-bullying lessons and other strategies to ensure that students are provided with a safe, caring and comprehensive learning environment.
Academic Development
Each student will participate in setting goals with the counselor as I make my rounds to every classroom, teaching various lessons on how to study, prepare for tests and use your personal learning styles.

Additional consultations are available to trouble shoot with students who find that their grade are not where they want them to be.
