I began teaching elementary school in 1975. In 1982 I joined the US Navy. I was on a ship for 4 years here in
San Diego. About 7 months after my discharge I began teaching here in San Diego as a daily visiting teacher. I was given my first full-time San Diego class in 1989. I taught at King Elementary School until 5 years ago when I was assigned to Challenger Middle School. I was there for 4 years before being assigned to Mann this year.
As a teacher I've taught in all grades from K-12. My years before and after the Navy were mostly 3rd grade. I was thrown a few combination classes, one of which was a K-1-2 class. I was a District newsletter editor, a representative to Teachers Unions and Delegate assemblies. I received training in Gifted & Talented Education [not our District's GATE program] and was the site leader at my school. I've had Advanced Leadership Training in planning workshops for teachers and have also given several presentations at Professional Teaching Conferences. I also worked on District Language Writing Prompts and presented training sessions in the prompts & rubrics. In addition, I have attended numerous District workshops and Professional Development training classes for different subject areas, as well as for administering and scoring the CELDT.
I have 3 married daughters, 3 grandchildren, a motorcycle, and sing in a men's chorus. I play clarinet & saxaphone. I have also had flying lessons, owned a small plane, and acted in community theater. My second language is French, and I can communicate in sign language.
