Art and Family Consumer Science are two electives in which every 6th grade student is enrolled.  Each class lasts for one quarter. 

Family Consumer Science is taught during the 2nd and 4th quarters.  We spend 5 weeks learning about kitchen safety and cooking in our SMS kitchens.  The last half of each quarter students learn two stitches that can be used in hand sewing.  The final project involving these stitches is a stuffed football.

Students are given time during class to complete assigned projects.  However, projects may be taken home if a student is absent or is unable to finish the project in the provided class sessions.
