Week of February 4 - 8, 2008
updated February 3, 2008
February has arrived and that pesky groundhog came out of his burrow and saw his shadow! Six more weeks of winter is what we were told. As much as we'd like to have some snow to play in at school, I think we'd all vote for an early spring. February is going to be a busy month in Room 8. We’ll be working on the alphabet letters E,F,G and H. The children are all doing a super job with these lessons. Our two fabulous February themes are Valentine’s Day (Hearts, love, red and pink) and Dinosaurs!!! We will celebrate our 100th day of school this week on Wednesday and Valentine's Day on the 14th with a fun party. We are going to have a Dental Health lesson on February 15th. We have a day off for President's day on Monday the 18th. Progress Reports will go home again at the end of the month. This year February has 29 days so we'll also be celebrating Leap Year on the last Friday of the month.

As I mentioned before, I am very pleased with the way that children are taking to the “Letter of the Week” lessons. I am getting great effort from each and every one of the children, even our very youngest. They are all working hard to make the connection of the letter and the sounds it makes. The reinforcement activities are wonderful and I can't thank the parents enough for the terrific “Show and Tell” items that have been sent in since we started this work. The little ones enjoy showing off their treasures each Friday. Please say the Letter Cheer with your child during the week and try to talk about the different target vocabulary that we are using for each letter.
This week’s Letter is “E” and our vocabulary words are: envelope, elephant, egg and eight
