The mission of East Haven High School is to meet the needs of all students by empowering them to achieve their goals. We strive to provide a variety of opportunities for students to gain experiences and explore ideas to better understand themselves and their role in an ever-changing world. To achieve our mission, we encourage active involvement and communication among school, family, and community.
Ninth graders are part of a teaming initiative. This provides parents, teachers and staff an opportunity to be part of a supportive community for each student.

This course integrates grammar, vocabulary, oral expression and process writing into the study of literary genre including the short story, drama, the novel and poetry. The objective of this course is to improve reading comprehension, vocabulary and writing skills so students will be expected to read some materials independently. CAPT, and reading and writing strategies will be emphasized. Two process papers will be required. Student Expectations: 4, 5

Students in this course will explore issues and events in world history ranging from the Renaissance time period (1400) to the post-Cold War era. The course will take a chronological approach; however, units will focus on overarching themes and essential questions (e.g. What causes cultural beliefs to change?). A major emphasis will be placed on the development of persuasive writing skills. Students will also be expected to analyze and interpret a variety of primary and secondary source materials. ALGEBRA 1 PART 1

Prerequisite: Teacher recommendation Grade: 9
This course seeks to meet the needs of all learning levels by providing an accessible approach and pace to help students to succeed in algebra. The course will begin with a review of fractions, percents, and proportions and continue on to topics covered in a more traditional algebra course. These topics include solving, graphing and writing linear equations and solving systems of equations. At the completion of this course students may take Basic Geometry. A scientific calculator is required for this course. Student Expectations: 6, 4, 5
ALGEBRA 1

Prerequisite: Teacher Recommendation Grade: 9
This course stresses the fundamental operations of positive and negative numbers; the solving and graphing of linear, exponential, and quadratic equations; the solving and graphing of systems of equations; polynomials, proportions and statistics. Problem-solving, real-life applications, and cooperative work using technology are stressed. A scientific calculator is required for this course. Student Expectations: 6, 4, 5

This laboratory course is a logical and comprehensive introduction to chemistry and physics. We explore the properties of matter, energy transfer and transformations, the changing Earth, and science and technology in society as we ask the questions:
• How does the structure of matter affect the properties and uses of materials?
• What is the role of energy in our world?
• How do materials cycle through the Earth’s systems?

RESOURCE
The resource program provides students with academic support for mainstream content area classes, as well as assistance in developing study strategies and organizational skills.
COLLABORATION/CONSULTATION MODEL
Special Education staff and/or paraprofessionals work in collaboration with general education teachers to support special education students in the general education curricula Support may be provided through consultation with general education teachers or through direct instructional time in the general education classrooms. These services are provided as per the student’s Individual Education Plan, through the PPT process.
