The goal of this course is to expose students to a broad spectrum of American literature in order to obtain a greater understanding of the English language and American cultural history. This year, in addition to short stories, poetry, and non-fiction works, we will read such novels and plays as The Crucible, Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, The Great Gatsby, and Raisin in the Sun, as well as one choice novel which they will be the basis for a literary analysis research paper.
