This year we are incorporating additional component to the reading class in order to improve the quality of instruction to your student.
WILSON READING PROGRAM: Most students will continue with the direct instruction and development or word attack skills. The Wilson Reading System is a research-based reading program that provides an organized, sequential system with extensive controlled text to teach students fluent decoding and encoding skills to the level of mastery.
CYBERSLATE: This is a computer program designed to improve fluency using short practice sessions with word reading and passage reading. Students download these sessions from the internet and practice on their own schedule. CyberSlate shows them their progress on a Chart, and rewards them with incentive points. Each student is asked to do this 4 times a day both at school and at home. Each session take less than 5 minutes.
MEGAWORDS: This series is designed to help the student read and spell words with 2 or more syllables. The words have been organized into list according to their phonetic structure. It is a reinforcement of rules and patterns taught in class.
WORDS THEIR WAY: Word Study for Phonics, Vocabulary, and Spelling Instruction: This series is divided into three levels: Word study for the emergent or beginning speller. The second level is for the transitional learner which focuses on learning vocabulary through studying patterns within words, syllabications skills and affixes. The third stage is for the advance reader and focuses on developing vocabulary by the studying the derivational relationship of words and their roots
Cyberslate can now be used at home. Logons and passwords have been distributed. Students should practice their fluencies daily at home by logging onto: www.cyberslate.com/SCHOOL.
