This elective course emphasizes oral communications and the study of popular media.

These classes are each one semester in length and earn a total of 3 semester credit hours of dual credit per semester. Composition I focuses on the process of writing expository prose, incorporating oral, visual, and electronic modes. It introduces research skills and critical thinking skills. A C grade or better must be earned in order to advance to Compostion II which focuses on the process of writing argumentative prose.

English II is designed to give sophomores a comprehensive study of English. Emphasis is placed on literature, speech and composition.... Spelling, vocabulary, grammar, usage, punctuation, and journal writing will be emphasized all year long.

This class is responsible for publishing the Mustang Express in the Storm Lake Times, The Trotter in the Buena Vista Journal, and the school yearbook.
