9th Grade Health
Students in the ninth grade take health education for one marking period. Major units in the freshmen year include: appearance (skin, hair, dental), mental health (behavior, emotions, intelligence, mental mechanisms, neuroses, mental illness), alcohol, tobacco and drug abuse, human sexuality, and the value of exercise for wellness.
Course Requirements: • Students must attend all classes • Students will bring a notebook and a pen/pencil everyday to class • Students are allowed only 3 unexcused absences • If a student is absent it is his/her responsibility to contact the teacher for any make-up work • Students have until the next school day to hand in any work missed while absent • If a student is absent on the day a of a test, quiz or project is due he/she must take the test/quiz or hand in the project the next day present in school • If a student fails health they will not be able to graduate on time with 2008/2009 class Grading • Projects 30% • Test 25% • Quizzes 15% • Class work 15% • Homework/current event 10% • Preparation 5%
9th Grade Physical Education
The emphasis in the ninth grade physical education program is the refinement of established skills and team strategies in selected activities. In addition, the principles of lifetime fitness will be introduced. Activity units may be selected from the following: character education, football, fitness, soccer, basketball, floor hockey, speedball, pickleball, softball, and weight training. Units may vary depending on the needs and interests of the class.
Unprepared Policy Students are required to change completely into appropriate gym attire for P.E. class. 1st Occurrence notify parents, athletic director and guidance counselor Lower marking period grade five points. 2nd Occurrence notify parents, athletic director and guidance counselor Lower marking period grade 10 points. 3rd Occurrence notify parents, athletic director and guidance counselor Lower marking period grade 20 points. 4th Occurrence Automatic Failure for the marking period Grading Policy Students will be graded in four areas for each activity Participation: actively participating in daily tasks Preparation: being completely changed into proper gym clothes every day Skill: student is making progress in their skill level from the beginning to the end of unit Written Exams: A written test will be taken at the end of each unit A cumulative test will be given at the end of each marking period Writing Assignment: Once during the marking period students will be required to write a 100 word essay on sport during the unit. ** Any student who is excused from class due to a medical problem will be given written assignments in place of the physical activity. |
