Welcome Letter from Mrs. Lachance
updated August 27, 2011
Dear Families, Welcome to third grade. I am so pleased to have the privilege of teaching your child this year. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you. Prior to coming to Coventry I taught in private school for 4 years. I have been teaching in the Coventry School System for 25 years. All of my teaching years in Coventry have been here at Blackrock School with the first 3 years as the Kindergarten teacher. I stepped away from my classroom temporarily and took on the role of Professional Development Coordinator for RTI at Blackrock and Tiogue Schools for 2 years returning last year to my classroom and my love, teaching children. I have four children of my own. James, my eldest is in school at RIC for music and is 25 years old; Sara, my 23 year old, has just begun medical school in South Carolina; Kathryn, my 20 year old, is in her junior year at Lebanon Valley College in Pennsylvania (near Hershey, yumm , majoring in Psychobiology with an art minor) and currently studying abroad in Greece; Zachary, my 14 year old has begun his freshman year of High School; Remy, our dog, a Shishon, is 15 months old and a ball of personality. Some housekeeping to mention: • a supply list was send in the grade 2 report cards and hopefully you were able to outfit your child for success. If you did not receive one please let me know and I will send you one. • my email is lachancediana@coventryschools.net- a very effective way to communicate with me • our class web page should be checked weekly and can be accessed off the school web site under grade 3 or via Mrs. Castle’s principal page. Class information will be posted there as well as targets for math, writing and reading focus areas, messages board, web sites for you and third grade students, and much more. • open house is the perfect night to come in and meet me and the parents of the other students in your child’s class. Please plan now on attending on September 20th. • Homework is given nightly that involves reading, spelling and/or math. Sometimes writing is finished or continued from home for student’s requiring more time. Homework is important and should be made a priority in your child’s home routine. Homework is not given over the weekend but reading every night should be a common practice for all third graders and not just a 5 night a week practice. The typical time is 20 minutes of reading and 15 minutes of math and spelling practice. • Tissues, cleaning wipes, and hand soap are always very welcome donations. • Please let me know of any concerns you have for your child at any time by emailing me or calling the school at 822-9450. I will make every effort to return your call as quickly as possible. Don’t forget the Blackrock Bees home matrix. Be Safe, Be Ready, and Be Respectful and Be Responsible at home and school develop wonderful character in our children and students. Looking forward to meeting with each of you very soon at Open House and again at fall conferences. Mrs. Lachance
