English Spoken Here
Welcome, students and parents, to Honors British Literature. From Beowulf to Macbeth, from King Arthur to Jane Eyre, we will follow the stories of the heroes and scrouldrels, princes and palpers of British literature. Throughout the semester, I will continually add resources to this website. So pull up a comfy chair and get ready to read the classics.
Honors British Literature
What language is most frequently used on the Internet? Is the language of international business? Is studied in every country in the free world? Tells the stories of countless heroes and heroines? If your answer is English, then welcome to the study of your language. As Americans, our literary heritage is British literature. During this semester you will read selections from the Anglo-Saxons through the Post-Modern era. These works will include dramas, novels, poems and short stories. From these readings you will develop an understanding of the chronological context and relevance of the period structures of British literature. In addition, you will develop an understanding of the people and events that make up the fabric of Great Britain. Along the way, you will develop your reading, thinking, speaking and writing abilities. Additionally, you will learn how literary critics examine literature and apply their craft to your own writings. Because this is an Honors course, the work will be accelerated and taught in a manner that challenges you with a rigorous curriculum—one that will prepare you for future studies in a university environment.
