American Government
Fall Semester 2009

This required course focuses on the origin and structure of American Government. Students will examine the government of the United States and will study the Constitution from its origin to present day.
Unit two focuses on election politics. Students will begin by examining political parties and the election process and will cover influences on election outcomes and the expansion of voting rights.
Unit three focuses on the structure of the lawmaking branch of government and the process of creating public policy.

Global Perspectives
Global Perspectives examines the geographical, historical, cultural, political, economic and current issues in Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa.

Each unit will define and study the types of governments and economic systems found in the region today. Emphasis is placed on the wealth or poverty of the nations in the region and the factors that cause that wealth or poverty (religious, economic, political, available resources, population dynamics). Tensions and conflict in the region are examined in relationship to the previously mentioned factors.
