Course Description:
English is a course of study that will allow students to meet the California State Standards in English in the following domains:
Reading: - Reading comprehension (extended reading, informational text, nonfiction)
- Independent reading
- Vocabulary – morphology and word derivation
Writing:
Effective academic writing:
- Cause and Effect Essays
- Persuasive Essays
- Narrative
- Literary Pesponse and Analysis
Conventions: - Focus for standard American English
- Sentence structure
- Clauses and phrases
- Punctuation, capitalization, spelling
CLASS EXPECTATIONS
Required Materials:
- Tree ring binder with paper and dividers to keep assignments
- #2 pencils, blue/black/green ink pens, highlighter
Rules/Responsibilities: All Mann Middle School rules shall apply
- Be on time and be prepared for class
- Work productively the entire class time and participate in all class activities
- Respect yourself, respect others and their ideas
- No food, or drinks allowed in class (water is the only beverage allowed to be brought into class)
- Teacher must dismiss class.
- Students will not engage in any disruptive behavior. They will control their own behavior and help support a learning environment.
Grading:
Grade Scale
90-100%=A 80-89%=B
70-79%=C 60-69%=D
0-59%=F
Attendance and Tardy Policy:
- All absences are considered “unexcused” unless cleared by the attendance office. It is your responsibility within 2 days to clear your absence.
