In 1948 the United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a document that enumerates 30 basic rights that belong to all humans, everywhere, and calls for the international community to promote and preserve these rights. The UDHR serves as the foundation for the Human Rights Education class. Students learn about the 30 basic rights, how they are being violated around the world and even within this country, and what they can do to address and spread awareness of these rights.
