Visual Arts with Mrs. Myers..The earth without art is just.."eh".
"Establish Your Roots" is this year's theme for World Peace Day. Our "peace tree", created by Mother Seton students, grades pre-k through 8th will travel to various locations. May all of our students and staff continue to plant seeds of kindness throughout the year! Remember to focus on the establishment of our five branches; faith, family, diversity,conservation and Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton.
2012 Fine Arts Night is May 7th at 7:00 pm.

Van Gogh - Interactive Animation

Intermediate
Third Grade - A Star is Born! Students are learning about the life cycle of a star. I had them trace and cut out a circle. Next, we divided the circle into six sections. Students will then illustrate the different cycles. We will turn this project into a kinetic quiz type of game. Parents...... better start reading up on stars. Your child is coming to quiz YOU!

Fourth Grade

Objectives: Students Will Explore 3-D materials - make an armature and apply paper mach� - develop skills in 3-D media - Develop skills in painting, connect art to science

Easter is around the corner and we wil review the Easter story. We will discuss the meaning of Jesus' last several words through the site Loyola Press. Then we will put together a cross neckace from nails. May this cross remind your child the sacrifice Jesus has made for all of mankind.

Fifth Grade

 This month the students are observing various artists from the past, gathering facts and comparing artistic styles.

Our next art assignment will be a three- dimensional fish from a recycled product. Students will identify the body parts of a fish as they compare and contrast several species.

Middle School
Sixth grade will be learning how to draw one point persepective. One Point Perspective Room Drawing is a link added to help you design your own bedroom in one point perspective. It is also an opportunity to earn extra credit! Click on the link below the paragraph to get started. I look forward to seeing your creative minds in action. Art Factory is a great site that will help you make those linear forms.

Sixth grade is also collecting pictures of food for a Renaissance portrait collage in the style of fantasy artist, Giuseppe Arcimboldo. We would appreciate any food magazines you are willing to donate.Students began working on their Arcimboldo style, self portriats today. Areas of focus: shape, overlapping,replacement, juxtaposed and creativity. These portraits will definitely be a conversation piece!

Seventh Grade

Seventh grade students have been concentrating on shape, value, contrast, range of value, flow, analogus and complementary colors. The students havetaken these elements and combined them into cubism art! We have observed the artwork of Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque.

On April 16th, students will learn the history of basket weaving and four various methods of construction. They will weave a small basket from newspaper. This is a green school lesson which also integrates the culture of Africa.

 

 

Eight Grade

Students will observe and discuss the artwork of the Sistine Chapel.  Click on the words: Sistine Chapel  to observe the beautiful artwork. We also discussed the artwork of Michaelangelo and the  life of Pope Benedict XVI.

MSS Snow Sport Club - 6yrs. old thru Adult
The 2011-2012 Night Club Release Forms have arrived. New this year, a Night Club Season Pass. Deadline to order a NCC season pass is 10/15. This pass is for folks who only need a lift ticket. The early bird special is valid through Nov. 4th.

MSS Visual Art Dept. Art Angels
The Art Angel program is for middle school students students that share an interest in art and service.
Primary
First Grade - Our first graders have been identifying geometric shapes and comparing them to organic shapes. Next they used geometric templates to create a robot. Their creativity has been stimulated. i look forward to putting up the display! 

We will begin a Japanese unit the middle of March. Students will learn the symbolism of the Japanese dogwood tree and and then incorporate a variety of painting techniques in a scroll painting.

 

Second Grade

Students became familiar with Renaissance artist, Leonardo da Vinci and his many talents. We have been working on symmetrical balance and putting our skills to a self portrait. Each facial feature was broken down into proportions and details. Next, we will incorporate the american flag into a background. 

Mrs. Kirby's class had a chance to work with digital art using the art room's wireless mouse. Check out the National Gallery of Art for Kids. They have fabulous interactive art related links. Parents..... make sure you allow some interactive time for your child. This site can suck you in!

Next on our agenda is symmetrical balance and butterflies!
