Important Information:

 

Tie-Dye T-shirts

In gym class this Thursday, the students will be tie-dying their shirts if you ordered one for field day:  “Under the Big Top”.  If you did not order the special field day shirt, the students are allowed to bring in a plain white t-shirt to tie-dye and to participate. Also, each student must bring in one plastic grocery bag to put the wet shirt in.  

 

Cleaning

We did not have any parents sign up to help clean so I am canceling it.

 

Notes and Money Pouch

Please empty the zipper pouch out.  These are mine to use for next year’s class.  Thank you!

 

Visited First Grade

Today we visited first grade to see how things might be next year.  The students got to sit in the desks, listen to a first grader read, and much more.  Ask your child about the visit!

 

Pictures from K-Rhodes

  • I am putting together a CD of pictures from our whole year… what a wonderful year it has been!  I am going to miss them soooo much.  What a blessing it has been to have these students in my life!  We will watch the slideshow together and I will send it home next week on Wednesday.

 

Farm Field Trip- Thursday, May 30th

o    Thank you to the many drivers and chaperones!  This is a wonderful learning experience and I’m glad you get to join us.  Please arrive at school at 8:20 and we will leave at 8:30.

o    Regardless of the warm temperature for the day, please dress in play clothes,

long pants, and athletic shoes---  must be worn.  MCS spirit wear is nice, too.  We will be walking and playing in the woods, riding a pony, and petting/feeding animals.

o    Please bring a hat/cap for our walk in the woods!!! 

o    Bug spray- please put this on before you come to school.  

o    Sunscreen- You may want to put this on as well.  We are outside from 9-12:30.

o    Please pack a snack separately from your lunch and MARKED WITH YOUR NAME

o    Please pack a lunch, drink/water, silverware, and napkin.

o    Please pack an extra water bottle with ice or freeze a water bottle for our trip. 

o    Please pack an extra pair of shoes and socks in your backpack in case it is muddy.

o    Please bring your BOOSTER SEAT to schoolJ

 

Friday, May 31st

Book Character Party!  We are so excited to see all of the creative characters and books!  This is going to be an exciting day to celebrate learning to readJ  Please plan on wearing your costume for the entire school day.

Faith Family, Mass, and Awards – Please drop off at St. Monica Campus

 

Wednesday, June 5th

Beach Day!!!!  We are having a beach themed day at our campus.  Our K-2 will be spending the day together playing “beach” games, and much much more!  The students are welcome to dress down for this special day.  You may wear shorts, t-shirt, and athletic shoes.  Please, no flip-flops/sandals or spaghetti straps / tank tops.  We will use our rest time towels for the beach! 

 

Thursday, June 6th

Field Day- Please drop off at our campus and we will walk to Rose Park later in the morning.  We will be staying with our class to play the games!  Then, we will walk back to campus for our last good-byes and report cards.  Play clothes may be worn… shorts, t-shirts, athletic shoes.  Please, no flip-flops/sandals or spaghetti straps / tank tops.

Congratulations to my almost 1st graders (in three days!).  I pray that you and your family have a relaxing, safe, and fun summer vacation!  I will miss you!  Parents and students, thank you for all your support and dedication this year.  I have been very blessed to have taught these students.  It has been amazing watching each one of you grow this year and I know you will continue to grow this summer as you read, read, read and write, write, write!  Don’t forget to play all of our fun math games!  Each one of you holds a very special place in my heart.  God bless you and your family!

***Homework:

·         Show & Tell for FRIDAY for our Book Character Party- We will be traveling to each classroom.  Each student will get to tell the classes about his/her character and book.  PRACTICE at home what you are going to tell us about your character and be able to tell us the title of your book.

o    Gather your costume for Friday.

·         Math – Home Link 8.14- Due by Friday- Student can write out the story on the back of the page or another piece of paper.

·         Review all your sight word flashcards 3-5 times a week J You could start to write these words, too.

·         Read “Zack and Jan” again.  Keep reading your other mini-books!




***Here are some things that we are learning this week:

·         Religion- The Holy Family

o    Jesus, Mary and Joseph were a family and they are called the Holy Family.

o    His family is like our families.  We show love for each other.

o    Jesus did listened and did chores for his parents like we listen and do chores for our parents.

·         Reading/Writing-

o    End of the Year Reading Test and Dictation Test

o    Sight words –ALL of them J

o    Recognizing the CVCe long vowel pattern with long o and long u  (silent e) 

o    I tell the students that the “e” bites his brother and it makes him scream his name.

o    Chunking parts of words (word families)

o    New ending to a story

o    Capital letter at the beginning of a sentence.  Ending mark at the end of the sentence. 

o    Naming ending marks and knowing their meanings.

o    Continue our handwriting book – The kids are doing great!

o    End of the year journal pages

·         Math-

o    Mrs. Rhodes’ Shop- trading pennies and nickels

o    Math assessments

o    We will be making our final calendars… June, July, and August… to practice calendar skills over the summerJ
