Content and Standards Covered:
Language Arts:
• Reading and Researching through Expository/Persuasive Text - To take notes and using textual evidence
• Reading and Responding to Narrative Text through analyzing and critiquing
• Writing Personal Connections, Summaries and a Narrative for a specific purpose
• Writing Expository and Persuasive Text
• Writing and Presenting Responses to Literature
• Functional Document- Structural features, content and purpose of public documents
• Multi-Genre- myths, epic poetry, legends from various civilizations
Required Daily: Textbook, binder, paper, and pencil. Students will be issued a binder by the school and are required to have with them at all times. It is to be kept neat, clean, and professional. Lost binders will be replaced by students at their own cost.
Tardies: A student is tardy if she/he is not in class by the time the tardy bell rings.
Homework Policy: Daily reading for 30 minutes is required.
Homework is assigned periodically.
Makeup Work: All homework is due at the beginning of class on the due date. Work may be resubmitted for higher grades.
Grades: Grades are based on classwork, class participation, homework, tests and projects.

Consequences for Unacceptable Behavior:
1. Verbal Warning
2. Detention-parent contact
3. No show-double detention-parent contact
4. Request for parent input and participation
5. Parent Conference
6. In-school suspension
7. Referral to Dean
Absences: All missed work form an absence must be made up or zero points will be given. Student is responsible for missed assignments.
Parent Communication: Communication between student, parent and staff will be conducted in person, phone, email, or notes as needed.
Available Tutoring: Students are encouraged to come in before or after school for additional help or questions on assignments.
Class Expectations:
1. Be Prepared to work when the bell rings (bring materials to class, sharpen pencil before class starts).
2. Follow instructions the first time they are given.
3. Raise hand to speak or get out of your seat.
4. No food, gum, drinks, electronic devices.
5. Attend every class- Attendance improves performance.
6. Actively participate in class (experiments, activities and discussions.
7. Permission to leave class must be approved my teacher.
Requirements for Success: Students should be on time, prepared with supplies, participate actively, and show respect for peers, teachers, equipment, and environment.
