This is the first of four classes surveying world history from earliest times to the present. Each of the four classes builds on the knowledge and skills of Global History learned starting here. The sequence will end in June of 2014 with a Regents Exam. Global History and Geography I will examine the concepts of culture and civilization, the impact of geography on cultures and historical events, the earliest civilizations of Mesopotamia and Egypt, the Indus River Vally and China, the development of Classical civilizations and religions, the fall of Classical empires, the development of newer societies and civilizations, and conclude with the new forces which led to the European Crusades. Throughout this semester and next (in Global History and Geography II) the main emphasis will be on the critical skills of historical analysis, writing, document reading, factual analysis, essay writing, chronology, and geography, all of which are essential for history (and the Regents Exam).
