Student Evaluation:
Students’ grades are based on an accumulated-point system. Each graded assignment or activity is assigned a certain number of points based on its complexity and overall importance to the objectives of the course. The grades are weighed using the PGCPS mandated SchoolMax System which will be accessible to both parents and students. The percentages that are figured using this point system are translated into the following categories:

Classwork 25%
Homework (DAILY) 25%
Assessments/
Written Assignments 50%

Extra-Credit and Make-Up Work:
This course is designed to prepare students for collegiate level courses; therefore, there will be limited opportunity for extra credit and students will be required to submit missed work according to Prince George’s County policy following a lawful absence. Students should strive to complete ALL requirements on time. When absent, it is the student’s responsibility to obtain missed assignments.

English 11: American Literature
Purpose of English 11 American Literature:
The purpose of this course is to make the student a proficient reader and writer of texts. In addition to the study of numerous non-fiction primary source documents, the student will read novels by major American authors that should enhance the student’s understanding of a particular time period and style. Ultimately, students will be able to explain the various cultural identities reflected in the works of prominent American authors as well as how those writings reflect the time period in which the author wrote.
