Course Curriculum

Writing well-constructed paragraphs
Prepared Writing: Personal Narrative (Memoir)
Write an autobiographical incident that presents an experience from the writer’s life and shows its importance. The writing should include figurative language, dialogue, conflict, voice, and character development
On Demand Writing: Daily responses to literature, Essay exams, Note-taking
Persuasive Letter: Use MLA format, rational evidence, multi-paragraph construction, and proper organization.
Preparation for MCA Writing test: Focus on multi-paragraph essay

Speaking / Listening
Tribute Speech
Focuses on the interview process, writing a formal speech outline, and delivery skills, including body language, voice, stance, eye contact, volume, and speed.

Large group and small group discussions and presentations

Literature
A short story unit including the titles The Most Dangerous Game, The Necklace, The Gift of the Magi, and The Cask of Amontillado.

A study of Greek/Roman mythology including creation, nature, and demi-god myths and selections from Homer’s The Odyssey.

Specific drama choice is Romeo and Juliet, while the specific novel choices are To Kill a Mockingbird, Tears of a Tiger, and independent student-chosen novels.

Parts of speech, prepositional/verb phrases, sentence patterns and types, all punctuation rules, commas, semi-colon/colon/hyphen, quotation marks
