We live in an era of national, negative savings rates and record numbers of foreclosures and repossessions. With the current recession and high unemployment rates, money related stress is also at an all time high.
Most high school graduates in this country know little to nothing about money management, the power of compound-interest or the importance of saving and investing.
The goal of this course is to help students learn to responsibly and effectively manage money for the rest of their lives. This course is based on the material provided by the National Endowment for Financial Education.
The text is based on five economic lessons and constitute the Standards for the course. They are: Financial Planning, Planning a Career, Budgeting, Saving and Investments , HOW (habits of work)and Credit and Insurance. I added a final lesson on maintaining a checkbook.
The fundamental hope of the course is that students will, from the very beginning, have: a specific plan for their money, take control of their finances, and that they will win with money.
