College Geometry
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Algebra 1
Through the use of connections and applications to mathematical problems, students in this course will explore the study of Euclidean geometry as a deductive system. Students will learn the definitions, postulates, and theorems of geometry and their use in proofs and logical arguments. Topics include lines, planes, types of triangles, congruence, similarity, perpendicular lines, parallel lines and special angle pairs, polygons, properties of circles, the Pythagorean Theorem and special right triangles, right triangle trigonometry, formulas, perimeter, area, and volume.
Precalculus
Prerequisite: Algebra I, Geometry and Algebra II or Honors Algebra II
This course is designed to prepare students for the study of Calculus as either a high school senior or as a college freshman. It is not intended as a preparation for AP Calculus but will address topics necessary for successful completion of the calculus sequence. Included will be the study of polynomials and functions, graphing and curve sketching, logarithmic, exponential, and trigonometric functions, and conic sections. Polar coordinates and probability will also be addressed as time permits. The TI-83 calculator will be used in this course.
Honors Algebra 2
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Geometry
Students in this course will experience intensive treatment of the Real Number system, first degree equations and inequalities, matrices, exponents and radicals, rational expressions and equations, second degree equations and inequalities, the complex number system, conic sections and their equations, functions, and polynomials. Trigonometric functions and logarithms will be introduced as time permits. The TI-83 graphing calculator will be used throughout the course. |
