Congratulations to 3rd grader Nicholas Kanaczet at Blackrock.  His Grandma Moses inspired winter landscape was chosen by our Superintendent as the winner of the 2nd annual Christmas Card Contest. Excellent job Nick!

Grade 1
First grade artists are busy making collages!  They have been looking at the work of artist, Romare Bearden.  They are creating a portrait collage and we have had lots of fun searching through magazines to find the shapes and colors we need.

Grade 2
Second grade art students have created some amazing collages. The theme of our collages is "Space", to go along with what the children are learning in their classroom.  We enjoyed looking at the collage, "The Dove" by Romare Bearden.

The children liked searching for various round shapes and interesting colors in the magazines for their space collage.  If you have any magazines you would like to recycle, we would put them to good use in the Art room!

Grade 3
Third grade artists have been working with different textures to create a weaving.  We have been using some wonderful papers from the recycling center to add interest to our weavings.  We have been learning some of the history of weaving and how our ancient ancestors used weaving in their lives.

Grade 4
Grade four artists are finishing cartoon self-portraits and begining a unit on weaving.  Students are creating looms from recycled cardboard and warping them with strong yarn.  They are enjoying choosing different colors and textures of yarn to weave interesting patterns.

Grade 5
Our 5th grade artists have been finishing up an oil pastel / watercolor resist picture of chameleons.  Inspired by Franz Marc's painting, "The Large Blue Horses", the students' chameleons are large and colorful.  They are learning to value shade with oil pastels and to balance warm colors with cold colors.

The 5th grades students are beginning a unit on pen and ink.  Currently, they are using flat nibbed pens to learn to write their names in Calligraphy.  Next, they will be using drawing pens to draw some of the creatures in their biomes unit in science.

Grade K
Kindergarten Artists have been exploring abstract art and realistic art.  We have been mixing colors and painting beautiful masterpieces!  They love mixing the primary colors to make orange, green, and purple.
