| This month we will begin our study of body systems. |
Hello to you all! I hope you’re having a nice autumn. Here’s what’s up in 9C for the month of October:
In Cultural Studies, we will finish our unit on world geography and mountains. We will then transition into unit 2 to learn about Europe in the Middle Ages. Students will look at the causes of Rome's decline, as well as the rise of feudalism and how it differs from our modern day governments. Students will also get to make a castle and catapault representing the Middle Ages era.
In Language Arts, we will be working on descriptive writing. Students will use pre-write strategies to decide on word choice. Our grammatical focus will be on adjectives. Students will include a variety of punctuation and adjectives in their writing to enhance the overall description.
In October, we will focus on making connections during our reading time. Students will make text-to-text, text-to-self, and text-to-world connections while reading. They will write a personal response to a piece of literature in order to demonstrate meaningful connections made with the text. They will also build their background knowledge by reading a variety of nonfiction pieces.
During Mathematics, we will work on operations, rounding, and estimating. We will determine the correct operations to use when solving problems. We will decide whether an estimate or exact number is needed when solving problems. We will also use various operational concepts in a real life application.
In Science we will be wrapping up our unit on animals and beginning to study about the body systems. We will discuss how the skeletal and muscular systems operate. We will analyze the digestive system and nervous system of the body. Students will also discuss ways to care for the circulatory and respiratory systems.
Have a nice October break!
